One Year Together

This past week Abigail and Amélie crossed the 6-month mark, so together they were one year old. Amélie also started laughing for the first time, and Abigail was laughing too. Naomi even caught them on camera laughing together.

We are on vacation for a week, something I have really, really, really been looking forward to! We picked up Dad at the airport yesterday which was a lot of fun. The girls soaked in all the new sights and sounds. Afterwards Abigail was a bit overwhelmed, but they both did well at the Airport. Somehow we missed Dad coming out of the gate - strange because he was looking for us and we were looking for him - but he found us after a couple minutes.

It feels good to be at the cottage. Abigail moves around on the floor now; she will be crawling soon, so the carpeting, warmth and dryness here is nice. Today we will give baths and head to Erna's for the regular Sunday gathering. I am sure my Dad will be have fun with the family.

A Disappointing Week

February is my least favorite month of the year. Winter is no longer a novelty, it just gets old. Spring doesn't feel like it is around the corner yet (even though the daffodils are popping up here). At least I don't need to worry about Single's Awareness Day any more - Naomi and I were able to find some people to watch the girls and we went out to dinner on Friday.

I found out on Thursday that I didn't get the promotion at work. I would be disappointed, but not upset, if the reasons given were true. The director seems very misinformed in this case, because the things he said that prevented my 'borderline' application simply made no sense and didn't reflect reality. I think there are some legitimate reasons for declining my application, but he didn't mention those.

Anyway, today the sun has finally come out, so after a day of relaxation yesterday, we will try to take a nice walk or something. I have also been working on a design for our future house. I bought a sketchbook and some colored pencils, but my artistic skills are lacking. If I can just get the ideas that are floating around in my head onto paper, then I am happy. That means I will be able to fill up that sketchbook quickly because I have a lot of ideas...

The Interview

We got more snow this week! It felt a bit like Winter for a bit. The sun even came out a few times. Today it is quite depressing though - rainy and cold. Good thing we can sit by the fire at the Cottage. It has been another busy weekend though. Shopping and cleaning yesterday. Today we will go to Gerda's and then prepare things for my dad to visit! He is coming in two weeks on his way home from helping Claire in Switzerland!

At school this week I had an interview for a promotion that basically means I would get paid more over time. It was rather anti-climactic for some reason. I will find out on Thursday whether or not I got the spot.

Last weekend we set the girls up in their own room - it felt a bit like the first day of school or something - and now we are sleeping better at night. Abigail continues to surprise us with her physical ability. We set her down in one spot and ten minutes later she is in a different place altogether. She moves somehow - it isn't really crawling, but the beginning phase I suppose. She still wiggles and pumps her legs constantly. Already training for a Marathon....

Family visit at the Cottage.

Abigail's experimentations with the tongue.

Amélie feeding herself.

A bit confused by their new surroundings.

On their own in the baby room.

Wiped out from playtime and from overpowering her diaper.

This is not where we left Abigail...she started on the white blankets...

A Page Turner

We really got to see another difference between Abigail and Amélie this week. Naomi was sitting on the chair reading a newspaper with Abigail on her lap. Like a baby, Abigail slapped the paper, grabbed and crinkled the paper, tore the paper, and basically made it impossible for Naomi to read.

When I am in the same chair and reading a book with Amélie on my lap, she sits quietly (if she is in a good mood), observes, and sometimes her little hand will reach out, grab a page (or more) and turn it. Then she will do the same thing over and over again until she is out of pages. No tearing, no slapping, just turning and pretending to read.

School was a bit long this week mainly because I had to work on Saturday due to an open day. This coming week I have an interview for a promotion. From what I understand, I wouldn't be doing much more, if anything at all, but would be bumped up to a higher salary scale. Hopefully it works out.

Today we will be moving the girls from our bedroom to their own. Abigail has been keeping us up at night, so it is time for a change. We shall see how that goes...
