Naomi and I have both been a bit overwhelmed this week. A trip to the hospital, making arrangements with work, and back to the East. Alies came home on Thursday to experience the end of her life. We wanted to be here when she arrived. She was so happy to be here, couldn't stop talking, couldn't stop smiling, just loving her house and the fact that we were here.
By this morning the excitement has worn off and she has been asleep most of the day. They will probably take her off of all medication except the pain killers tomorrow, if she makes it that far.
We have been taking care of her (nurses come to do the dirty work) and taking care of the house. We started on the kitchen. It is a massive project to sort things out and reorder them. Quite overwhelming. And this is just the kitchen. I feel that it is about half done and we have both been working on it for hours and hours...progress comes fairly quickly now though.
In half an hour some family (Grandma and Hans and Erna) will come to say goodbye. At about the same time Naomi's friend Monique will come and we will go for a nice walk. Hopefully the sun stays out for a bit longer. After an early dinner I will drive back to Rotterdam and Naomi will be staying here.
