The school building is almost finished. In a few days the furniture should come. It looks really nice! I can't wait to be done with this terrible schedule. I doubt our schedule maker has had time to fix the problems though. She has a huge job with finding ways to fill in for a few sick people (Naomi included) and re-doing everything for a big project about jobs in technical fields that the 2nd year students have this week. She has a rough job; she is not very good at it.
Naomi went home sick Tuesday at lunchtime and has not made it back yet. She won't be there Monday either. Nasty head cold. Finally her body is telling her that she is too stressed and is working too hard. We knew this would happen but that doesn't make it any more fun.
I had some impressive lessons this week. We are told that the students have at maximum, a seven minute attention span. I spoke to all of the first year classes for 20-30 minutes. It was all about administrative stuff - like what happens if your work is late, or if you cheat, when to work at home, and how to make a good PowerPoint slide. Sounds pretty boring to me, but for some reason they were interested in that kind of thing. I don't quite get it, but I was happy with how things went.
I even had a good lesson with 2nd years, which hasn't happened yet this year. My team leader happened to walk in, so it was nice that he could see my classroom under control and peaceful for once (even though I didn't do anything differently).
A couple weeks ago I had a terrible time trying to put a shelf in the office at home. The old concrete was either full of holes or rocks, so screws into the wall was quite the challenge. I quit until I could buy better screws. When we were at the store, my head was a mess from school and I couldn't think straight. I didn't get the right screws, but yesterday I managed to put the shelf in anyway. Same with the new towel rack in the bathroom. I hope those two things stay put, because they are not terribly stable...
The house is coming along, and soon I hope to feel a sense of rest and being at home. I don't think that will come until all of the projects are finished, or almost there. We still have a few left to do...
